What Optimism Really Looks Like When You’re Starting Over

Sometimes starting over can feel like a real slog.

Leaving behind everything you’ve known to try something new can feel uncertain, even frightening, especially when staying where you are feels safe, familiar… and comfortable.

This is exactly where I find myself right now.

I’ve recently stepped away from my safe, well-paid corporate career to focus fully on my life coaching and energy healing business. After more than 30 years, this isn’t just a career shift, it’s a complete change in identity, rhythm, and way of being.

And whilst my intuition tells me the timing is right, that doesn’t mean it feels easy every day.

Listening to my inner voice — not my inner critic — is what gives me the optimism to keep moving forward.

Do I feel uncertainty about the future? Absolutely.

But if everything was guaranteed, if it was already a “done deal,” would it really be worth doing?

Growth doesn’t come from certainty. It comes from trust.

Of course, my inner critic still shows up.

It whispers:
“What if you fail?”
“You’re not good enough.”
“Who do you think you are to believe you can do this?”

And this is exactly where optimism comes in for me.

Optimism isn’t about pretending everything will be fine or forcing positivity.

It’s about choosing hope.
Choosing possibility.
Choosing to expect that something meaningful can come from the path you’re walking.

Because why would we step into something new already expecting it to fail?

Sometimes optimism can be misunderstood. It can be seen as overconfidence or even naivety.

But often, that’s just someone else’s inner critic speaking and projecting their own fears about what might happen if theytook a leap.

For me, optimism is about looking forward and allowing myself to truly visualise what is possible.

It’s about trusting that what is meant to unfold, will.

I believe the universe has a plan for me, and that this new path is part of something much bigger than I can see right now.

But staying connected to optimism isn’t passive, it’s a practice.

It requires intention.

For me, that looks like:

  • Staying physically grounded
Spending time in nature, reconnecting with the earth, and allowing that energy to steady me

  • Building self-trust
Listening to my intuition, even when it doesn’t make logical sense

  • Becoming aware of my inner dialogue
Noticing when my inner critic is trying to take over, and gently choosing a different voice

This is the kind of work I guide people through in my Realign & Rise programme.

Together, we explore how to:

  • Strengthen your optimism “muscle” through visualisation and self-awareness

  • Shift from expecting the worst to allowing space for the best

  • Reconnect with your values, so your life feels aligned and meaningful

  • Create boundaries where negativity drains your energy

  • Focus on what is within your control, rather than what isn’t

  • Approach challenges with curiosity, rather than fear

Because optimism isn’t about avoiding difficulty.

It’s about meeting life with openness, resilience, and trust.

If you’re navigating change right now, or feeling the pull towards something more, you don’t have to do it alone.

Alongside my programme, I also offer SoulSpeak meditations — personalised, guided experiences designed to help you reconnect with your inner voice, calm your mind, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Where in your life are you being invited to choose optimism right now?
