🌟 Leading With Energy: The Healing Power of Conscious Leadership

I recently had lunch with some friends, and one of them had just landed a new job. A similar role to what she’d been doing, but in a very different environment. As she shared her story, it became clear this move wasn’t just a career decision. It was an escape.

Her manager in the old role had been, in her words, “toxic.” Constant put-downs, long hours, no respect for boundaries , and sadly, it was normalised.
High staff turnover, low morale, and a culture that expected you to sacrifice your well-being without question.

And it got me thinking…

Is it all about the energy we bring as leaders?

Because it’s not the job title.
It’s not how clever you are.
It’s certainly not your ability to push people to breaking point.

Leadership is energy

Whether we realise it or not, leadership is less about control and more about energy exchange.

You can feel it when you walk into a room.
You can feel it in a conversation , whether someone leaves you feeling seen and empowered… or small and silenced.

In my own corporate career, I’ve been incredibly lucky. I’ve had managers who encouraged me, mentored me, and created space for me to grow. They led with presence, not pressure. They listened. They treated me like a human being, not just a resource.

And it made all the difference.

But not everyone is so fortunate.

So many people are still led by toxic managers in toxic systems. And the ripple effect of that goes deep. It damages confidence, drains passion, and often spills out into home life, health, and even our sense of self-worth.

When good workers are promoted to bad leadership

Here’s a common pattern I’ve seen (and maybe you’ve witnessed it too):

Someone is brilliant at their job, so they get promoted to manage people.

But no one ever asks:

Do they know how to lead?
Do they have the emotional intelligence for the role?
Have they been shown what healthy leadership even looks like?

Too often, the answer is no.

They’re handed responsibility with no support, no training, no reflection on the kind of energy they’re bringing to those around them.
And so the cycle continues.
Wounded leaders unconsciously wounding others, not out of malice, but because they’ve never known anything different.

Energy Hygiene: What Are You Bringing Into the Room?

Just like we care for our physical hygiene, leaders need to tend to their energy hygiene too. That means:

  • Taking a breath before rushing into meetings

  • Checking in with your own emotional state

  • Making time to clear stress before it spills into the team

Sometimes that’s as simple as a walk, a pause, a journal entry. Other times, it’s deeper: a Reiki session, a meditation, or releasing a heavy pattern from the past.

If you’re not clearing your energy, others end up carrying it for you. And that creates unconscious pressure, even if no one names it aloud.

The spiritual perspective: we’re all leaders

From a soul lens, leadership isn’t about job titles, it’s about how you choose to show up in the world.

You’re a leader in every interaction.
In the way you speak to the shop assistant.
In how you treat your children.
In the way you hold space for your clients, your friends, your community and yourself.

We are all energy in motion, constantly influencing the people around us. We have a choice, every day, to lead with compassion or control, awareness or autopilot.

How would it feel if I were on the receiving end of this?

This question is one I come back to again and again.

Because we’ve all had those moments, maybe in childhood, maybe recently , when someone’s words cut deep.

“Don’t cry or I’ll give you something to cry about.”
“Children should be seen and not heard.”
“That’s just the way it is.”

But what if we paused before speaking, acting, reacting… and just asked:
How would this feel if it were me?

True leadership is empathy in action.

A few spiritual principles for heart-led leadership

Whether you're leading a team, a family, or simply your own healing journey, here are a few guiding reminders:

Treat others as you wish to be treated , not just in words, but in energy.
Ask: Would I want to be spoken to this way?

Notice when you're leading from your wounds, not your wisdom.
Take a breath. Reflect. Heal before you react.

Encourage, don’t diminish.
A good leader lifts others into their light, they don’t dim it out of fear.

Model what you value.
Whether it’s kindness, clarity, or boundaries, embody it first.

Remember: power with, not power over.
This is the energy shift the world is craving, collaboration over control.

The Power of Realignment

When I created Realign & Rise, and my SoulSpeak meditations, I did it with leaders and changemakers in mind. Not just managers or execs, but anyone holding space for others.

Because the world needs more of us to lead from clarity, not from burnout. From embodiment, not from the old stories we’ve inherited.

You can shift your energy. You can realign. You can rise into a new way of showing up, one that feels like home.

And when you do? Everyone around you feels it.

Final thoughts

So maybe the real question isn’t just what makes a good leader
It’s what kind of energy do I want to ripple out into the world?

How can I choose to lead, in my conversations, my choices, my presence, from a place of integrity, softness, and strength?

Because leadership isn’t reserved for those with job titles.
It lives in the small moments.
And we all have the power to lead with love.
